Gromazen R9 (グロマゼンR9) is a Mechanical Beast debuting in Mazinger Z Episode 3, The Plan to Annihilate Mazinger Z.
Overview[]
A Mechanical Beast hastily built by Dr. Hell to take out Mazinger Z, Gromazen R9 bears much resemblance to the Super Robot, both in its design and weapons.
Armaments[]
- Extending arms
Thought to be the same type used by Garada K7, Gromazen R9's arms can extend to longer lengths to strike targets from afar with greater force. It can then rapidly rotate its extended arms to cause even more destruction. They seem to be based on Mazinger Z's Rocket Punch.
- Blade (刃物)
Blades mounted on Gromazen R9's forearms. They are capable of slicing through Aphrodite A's arm.
- Small Missile (小型ミサイル)
Small missiles which can be rapidly fired from the right index and middile fingers.
- Ion Beam (イオン光線)
Gromazen R9's most powerful attack, ion beams fired from the two panels on top of its head. It is capable of completely melting through Aphrodite A's lower body. However, firing the weapon twice will leave Gromazen R9 inoperable, which is why the weapon is only used as a last resort. It seems to be based on Mazinger Z's Koushiryoku Beam.
History[]
With the appearance of Mazinger Z and the loss of two of his Mechanical Beasts, an enraged Dr. Hell quickly constructed Gromazen R9 to specifically deal with the Super Robot. The Mechanical Beast began its attack after emerging from the ocean, destroying city infrastructure, along with obliterating police and army resistance with its weapons. Aphrodite A makes its appearance and attempted to stall Gromazen so that Mazinger Z could arrive in time. Gromazen R9 sprayed Aphrodite with its missiles, which Aphrodite managed to dodge, before severing Aphrodite's arms with its arm blades. As Gromazen was about to deal the finishing blow, Mazinger Z appeared and stunned Gromazen with a Rocket Punch, As Mazinger was embracing Aphrodite, Gromazen unleashed its Ion Beams at them, melting off Aphdrodite's lower half. Mazinger retaliated with another Rocket Punch which sends Gromazen down. This did not stop Gromazen from attacking Aphrodite, causing Sayaka to fly out of her robot. Gromazen then turned to Mazinger Z and once again attacked with its Ion Beams, but Mazinger managed to deploy its barrier in time after Sayaka informed Kouji of the function through the radio, causing the Ion Beam to be deflected back to Gromazen, destroying the Mechanical Beast.
